St Mary High School's Runner Up Performance

Although they missed out on the Jamaica's Best School Band trophy for the second consecutive year by just one point, the performance won over the audience with seemingly limitless energy, repertoire and musicianship.

Many thanks to the JBSB Hotel Sponsors!

Calabar High School 3rd Place Performance

A surprise favorite after the semi-final round, Calabar's preparation, strong audience connection and entertaining stage presence raised the bar for all bands during the final round.

BELAIR HIGH SCHOOL

Last year, the Belair High School 'Major 7' band was the second place finisher. This year, Major 7 clearly has their sites set on the crown. Led by Band Instructor, Mr Wentworth Simpson, Belair has the chops, the confidence and the talent to make it happen. Watch Belair's semifinal performance that got them through to the finals!

DINTHILL TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL

One of the largest secondary schools in rural Jamaica, the Dinthill Technical High School band put on a big show at Jamaica's Best School Band quarter-final and semi-final round last weekend. Deeds Not Words is the school motto and their preparation, energy and audience connection spoke volumes

CALABAR HIGH SCHOOL

The Calabar High School band semifinal performance was like a movie including extras, props and nuf drama. Calabar’s Music Director, Ms Tamara Norman, said the band was practicing every day and devised a uniquely creative story to stand out. Indeed, the band was locked in and the crowd couldn't have been more pleased with the musical theatre.

ST MARY HIGH SCHOOL

Last year's champion brings back an experienced ensemble of singers and players of instruments, as well as experienced teachers in Mr Gordon and Ms Graham. Unlike most bands, St Mary High can feature not just one but two saxophonists in addition to a strong percussion section, confident vocalists and a drummer who can hold it together.

The annual battle of high school bands is the only opportunity for young musicians to gain on stage experience, receive feedback from music and entertainment experts and showcase their skills with their peers. Join us April 14 at Edna Manley College for the Final!
